Associate’s Degree of Arts In General Studies

The General Studies Program is an interdisciplinary program that empowers students to become effective communicators, critical thinkers, decision-makers and reflective practitioners. Students enrolled in this program will be exposed to a broad spectrum of the arts and social sciences which will be delivered by using inquiry, discourse, hands-on and real-life application. Students will also be prepared to meet employment and professional requirements

It aims to develop students’ analytical, intellectual, communication, and problem-solving skills through a variety of instructional methods. It also seeks to prepare students for employment and for further study at the baccalaureate level.

Arts in General Studies Major

An Associate of Arts in General Studies Degree will provide:

  • An opportunity for students to gain knowledge, skills and attitudes applicable to their personal, academic and professional interests.
  • Academic diversity and a flexible course of study to enable students to maximize student achievement and promote independent, self-directed, life-long learners across a range of disciplines.
  • An opportunity for students to foster self-awareness in order to reflect, assess and clarify individual aptitudes, interests and aspirations.

Students who complete an Associate of Arts in General Studies Degree should be able to:

  • Identify and evaluate information, cite multiple sources, and use these appropriately to communicate ideas effectively in written, oral and visual forms across a range of disciplines.
  • Identify, investigate and think critically about personal, professional and societal issues and formulate practical and innovative solutions to these problems.
  • Develop an awareness and appreciation for human processes by exploring and applying a variety of methods and concepts in order to make informed and ethical decisions.
  • Assess and reflect on their role as productive employees, leaders and citizens of a democratic society and as active members of a complex local and global society.
