ENGL 1004 is designed to prepare students for entry into ENGL 1104. It guides students through the writing process through close reading of contemporary critical discourse and teaches the art of description, narration and exposition through critical thinking reading and research. In ENGL 1004 students examine the relationship among writer, audience and purpose and use appropriate documentation format in their essay writing. ENGL 1004 also aims to incorporate a range of communicative and language skills including oral, aural and written skills by collecting, reading and analyzing works within the modes of description, narration and exposition.
