The course, Mathematics of Finance, has increased in importance in the accounting, business and economics fields since it illustrates the relevance and application of problem solving skills in these fields. The course begins with a revision of fundamental ideas in algebra which will supplement the course work. The students explore concepts in simple interest, simple discount, compound interest, and compound discount. This establishes the foundation for the major section of this course – annuities (simple and general), amortization, sinking funds, capital budget management and depreciation.
