Course Description:
This course introduces the fundamentals of computer networks. It is intended for students to identify and use network transmission media. Topics of discussions include the OSI model, network topologies/protocols and their characteristics, addressing, communication reliability and the functions of a network operating system. Students will learn to distinguish between centralized, client/server, and peer-to-peer systems. Besides the theoretical foundations, students will acquire practical experience by configuring Local Area Networks (LANs).
The main emphasis will be on the physical and logical design, the layout of computer networks and the hardware components that make up the network. Learning IPv4 and a brief introduction to IPv6 will be covered in this course.
